Friday Thoughts: A Cross-Shaped Shadow

But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit. And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split, tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised.

—Matthew 27:50-52

Get close to the Cross, so close that you stand in its shadow.

It is then that you feel the earth quake and your faith deepen.

It is then that you witness salvation pouring forth from His wounds.

Often we kneel and pray at the cross to be delivered from our own personal crosses . What a beautiful way to think of the cross.

I sm reminded of an old hymn.

    Beneath the cross of Jesus
I long to take my stand
The shadow of a mighty rock
    Within a weary land.
    A home within the wilderness
    A rest upon the way,
A shelter from the noontide heat
And the burning of the day.

I take O Cross, thy shadow
    For my abiding place
I ask no other sunshine than
    The sunshine of his face.
Content to let the world go by
To know no gain or loss
My sinful self my only shame,
    My glory all the cross.

The “Shadow”. I will add this to my meditation as I gaze on my cross collection. Thank you. Also thanks for the info on how the anchor came to be a symbol along the cross.
