The Hem of His Garment
The woman in the Scriptures
wanted only to touch the hem
of his garment,
believing she would be healed.
I, too, want to touch the hem
of his garment,
not sure what, or if, I believe.
He is always ahead of me.
I try to keep up with his pace,
but it seems the faster I walk,
the faster he walks,
just out of my grasp.
Sometimes he disappears
into the crowd
and I lose sight of him.
Sometimes he’s so close
I can almost touch him,
but something or someone
always blocks my way.
I pray that someday
he’ll slow his pace,
or the crowd will part,
and like that woman
I, too, will touch
the hem of his garment.
