Early Christian paintings of Jesus Christ place a golden halo behind him. He is the Sun of Justice, the Light of the world. A cross is often placed within the halo: his glory is revealed in the mystery of his cross.

Similarly, saints are often represented with halos. They are images of Jesus Christ, who share in his mission. They are the salt of the earth and bring God’s light to the world.
The morning sun reminds us we are called to be light for our world.
