The Archdiocese of New York has a renewal program called Revive taking place in its parishes this year. The program comprises a reading from scripture, a reflection on the meaning of life, a witness talk, prayers and hymns.
This week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM, I’m taking part in the Revive program at St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall on Hudson. NY. It’s up near West Point. I have the sermon and will be offering some of the prayers.
On Monday I’m reflecting on the Creed as a way of understanding our world and seeing ourselves. On Tuesday, I’m reflecting on what is means to follow Jesus. He asks us to become like little children. On Wednesday we’re celebrating two sacraments, the Holy Eucharist and the Anointing of the Sick.
Here’s the way I opened our mission this evening:
I asked those attending the mission to see themselves in their own time and place. Jesus engaged the Samaritan woman as she was. He engages us and brings us his gifts as we are. I like the way Rembrandt pictures Jesus. God approaches us as he does the woman.
