Father, forgive them

Crown of Thorns

“Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” (Luke 23,34)

Words about forgiveness are easily said
to disciples on a mountain,
who wait a teacher’s wisdom.

But how do you say them
when mocked and cursed
and crowned with thorns,
nails in your hands and feet,
and soul raw with hurt?

How do you say them?
