   Purple

   The Church uses purple
   for sadness and solemnity,
   but all over our backyard
   violets bloom in the grass,
   their bright purple blossoms
   and shiny green leaves
   neither sad nor solemn,
   but a sign of spring hope
   …and Resurrection!
